IITian leaves their own company, earning ₹2 crore a month, and join startup as an engineer
A Jaipur-based founder shared the story of an IIT Kanpur alumnus. An IITian left his successful shoe brand due to unhappiness with Surat manufacturers.
An Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) graduate has surprised many by leaving his own company—where he reportedly earned ₹2 crore a month—to join a startup as an engineer. The bold career move highlights the growing passion among tech leaders to build and innovate within emerging startup ecosystems.
A founder owned a company in Jaipur has recalled her meeting with an IIT Kanpur graduate. The person with great efforts built a successful company, but quickly gets tired of dealing with manufacturing. An IITian entrepreneur quits a company to work for someone else.
Pranshi Chaturvedi, the founder and CEO of Bellish Group, speaks about the IITian’s journey in an X post.
Chaturvedi shared the story from her last trip, where she met the IIT Kanpur graduate. He had built a shoe brand with monthly sales of ₹2 crore. But the founder was still unhappy and eventually left the company to work at a Gurgaon-based startup.
IITian quits own company
According to Chaturvedi, the IITian founder left free enterprise as he did not like the method of business that manufacturers usually deal in Surat.
Pranshi Chaturvedi wrote in her X post. “On my recent trip, I met an IIT Kanpur alumnus who scaled his D2C shoe brand to ₹2 crore in monthly sales. He left it because he didn’t like how the Surat manufacturers operated.”
After leaving his business, the IITian has started to work as a Startup engineer in Gurgaon.
Without adding the name of the person, Chaturvedi revealed, “Now he’s in Gurgaon working as a Lead Engineer at a startup that has raised Series A funding”.
Explaining his decision to leave entrepreneurship for a job, she said, “The reason he said he quit was basically supply issues. He got tired of it and decided to use his engineering mind elsewhere.”
The users on the internet who read the story were largely amazed to know that somebody would give up a successful setup to work as an employee.
